Tom is supporting the Sustainable Infrastructure, Products and Services (SIPS) team as a Student Assistant since March 2021.

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics from the University of York and a master’s degree in Political Sociology from the University of Kent. He focused on the relationship between political institutions and society and became deeply interested in climate change – his master’s thesis explored the re-emergence of the climate movement in the UK.
For over a year Tom volunteered with Living Bankside, a community organisation in Southwark, London. He wanted practical experience of how grassroots social organisations can adapt their local area to match the needs of the community. He worked across a range of environmental projects, including tackling air pollution, expanding cycling infrastructure and developing a process for reducing embodied carbon in housing.

Since October 2020 Tom has been studying for a master’s degree in Public Policy and Social Change at the University of Tübingen. He seeks to gain a deeper knowledge of policy making, implementation, and evaluation to understand how governments can promote and encourage more sustainable solutions within society.
Tom is motivated by the belief that crisis represents an opportunity – in the process of tackling the multiple crises we currently face, we can create the ideas and forge the relationships that will make our societies more just for all inhabitants.

Tom is a British national.
