Apply Now! “Sharing and the City”, the Interdisciplinary Autumn Academy in Wuppertal on 1 – 5 October 2018

What can sharing contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle, future work patterns and local consumption patterns in cities? What is the potential for sustainable business? The participants of this year’s academy will discuss these and other questions while developing creative new concepts.

‘Sharing’ has become a trend in many parts of Europe and has been reintroduced into many spheres of life in recent years. Especially in the urban context, ‘sharing’ is playing an increasingly important role. Concepts like carsharing, foodsharing, urban gardening and co-working are becoming increasingly popular with a growing community of supporters and users.

The academy offers participants the opportunity to use the design thinking method to reflect on problems in real-life case studies, explore potentials for sharing in the context of sustainable urban development, and jointly develop innovative solutions. The programme will include presentations by companies and initiatives from Wuppertal that present their sustainable strategies and sharing ideas for the city. At the end of the autumn academy, the participants’ ideas will be presented in the context of a public Sharing Day in Wuppertal.

The autumn academy is encouraging students, graduates, doctoral students, postdocs, practitioners from all disciplines and anyone interested in sharing in cities to apply!

The VÖW ‘Herbstakademie‘ is organised and realised in cooperation with the project “Urban Up” in Wuppertal. The transdisciplinary research project “UrbanUp – Upscaling Strategies for an Urban Sharing Society” is being implemented by the CSCP, the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Transzent, and the Wuppertal Institute.
