Our First Popup Dialogue-Centre on the Future of Work Opens in Wuppertal on 17 October 2018

What will the working world of tomorrow look like? And what is your place in it? The best way to answer these and many more questions is through dialogue – between researchers, who can identify trends and statistics, politicians, who can change policies, and you, working people and citizens, who can shape the way we work in the future. Be part of the dialogue by visiting the Popup Dialogue-Centres on their journey through Germany.

With our project „Insights” (Wissenschaftsjahr 2018, Science Year 2018), jointly implemented with the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, and Folkwang University of the Arts, we travel through six different German cities with our Popup Dialogue-Centres on the future of work with a focus on digitalisation. In this travelling exhibition, we will fill empty stores with new life, so that visitors can experience what work might look like in the future, which technologies will be key, and which social and ecological aspects will be most relevant. During the exhibition, we ask citizens for the wishes and concerns about the digital transformation, what kind of digitalisation they would like to see, and how they would design and implement it.

Digitalisation is, of course, already omnipresent: not only does it affect our private lives significantly, our work also increasingly depends on it. This has very clear advantages: automated processes reduce dangers and physical strain in the workplace. Communication technology enables us to work effortlessly with colleagues around the world. Other positive developments are conceivable: Automated support could reduce the workload of nursing staff, allowing them more time for patient care. Nevertheless, this development also raises a lot of questions: Will my work still be important in the future? How will personal contact and interpersonal communication change? Could anonymous robots soon replace me? Who will take care of all the ethical questions? And finally, where can I go with all my questions?

From October 2018 on, we will tour six German cities with our Popup Dialogue-Centres: Wuppertal, Gelsenkirchen, Hanover, Kiel, Potsdam and Dresden. Ask your questions and together, we will try to find answers. We invite you to shape the future of work with us. How? By participating, asking questions, sharing opinions and offering criticism – we want to hear what your vision of the future of work looks like!

Join us on 17 October 2018 at 6pm for the opening of the Popup Dialogue-Centre at its first stop: Rathaus Galerie Wuppertal, Klotzbahn 5, 42105 Wuppertal. The opening will be followed by a discussion on the topic: “Digital Competences: Which ones do I need?”. You can find more details on our website www.durchblick-popup.de and on Twitter @durchblickpopup.

Discussing with us will be, among others, Ralf Münchow, member of the project group Science Year 2018 at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Martin Klebe, Chairman of the Management Board of the Agentur für Arbeit Solingen-Wuppertal, Julia Koch, Managing Director of ENTRANCE Gesellschaft für Künstliche Intelligenz und Robotik, Michael Kuhndt, Executive Director of the CSCP, Carolin Baedeker, Wuppertal Institute and Jörg Heynkes, author of the book “Zukunft 4.1” (Future 4.1).

After the opening the exhibition will be in Wuppertal for 10 days from noon to 7pm daily except sundays. We look forward to your visit. Check the website for the more details!
