The CSCP is a Founding Member of the Climate Chain Coalition

Distributed Ledger Technologie (DLT, e.g. blockchain) is one of the major technological developments to support the transition towards sustainability. At the second anniversary of the Paris Agreement, 25 organizations jointly established the Climate Chain Coalition (CCC) to advance DLT for scaling climate actions for mitigation and adaption.

During the One Planet Summit on 12 December 2017, the founding members of the Coalition agreed on shared principles and values to facilitate capacity building, networking, research, governance and pilot projects. The Coalition’s goal is the advancement of collaboration among its members in enhancing the environmental integrity and results of DLT applications for climate change mitigation and in mobilizing financial resources to scale climate actions.

DLT, as well as related digital solutions such as the Internet of Things and Big Data, enables the tracking of information. This is crucial for the enhancement of the Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) framework that enables countries to track their emissions and emission reductions, understand trends, design and implement strategies and gain international reporting credibility.

For the CSCP, as a founding member of the Coalition, this is a good example how ICT can be used collaboratively for sustainability goals. Collaboration is central to our work and multi-stakeholder dialogue is key for having impact, we welcome this chance to collaborate with diverse organisations on responsible technological development for climate change mitigation. As an open initiative, the Coalition welcomes new members to join the Coalition and contribute to a climate-resilient economy aligned with the Paris Agreement.
