Today’s political and economic challenges, brought about by resource scarcity and the rising price of raw materials, have focused international attention on ecologically, socially and economically sustainable solutions. Against this backdrop, the first International Conference on Sustainable Production, Trade, Consumption and Lifestyle will take place in ‘CongressCenter Ost’, NürnbergMesse from 17th – 18th February 2009. The conference will serve as a market platform for discussion and shaping future sustainability.
The spectrum of topics at the Conference ranges from current market developments and competitiveness of sustainable products and services, to solutions for future-orientated cooperation between official and non-governmental organisations and companies. The conference targets buyers, product managers and procurement managers for consumer goods, as well as services from trade, industry and official agencies, and manufacturers and producers. International and national trade promotion organizations, CSR managers, scientists and researchers will also play an important role.
The content of the conference is focused on the question of how sustainability can be ‘verified’, especially in terms of credible and comprehensible standards. Participants and speakers will also discuss the questions of credibility and transparency through certification and labelling systems and the issue of greenwashing through the question ‘What is actually sustainable and what is purely marketing strategy?’
Dealing with criteria and standards at company level is a challenge for both large and small enterprises. Possible solutions will be discussed and the innovation potential presented based on specific examples and business models. The conference will deal with the following product groups: food from non-organic but sustainable production, natural remedies and food supplements, wood and products from sustainable forestry, textiles and natural fibres, paper and green office material. Financing services, marketing, media and certification will also be covered.
