The Human Development through the Market (HDtM) Project aims at introducing innovative business model for entrepreneurs, National Cleaner Production Centres (NCPCs) and other relevant intermediaries like financial institutions, business associations and other organizations. It is a market based business approach that provides products and services with environmental, social, and economic values. It is doing business in a way that benefits the private sector, the public bodies, the host community, and the intermediary organisations.
A major outcome of the project is the HDtM Strategy Paper. This document illustrates the opportunities behind the HDtM approach and the competitive advantage that promoting it might bring to intermediary organisations. It consists of a conceptual introduction to the approach and good practice case studies in the area of Agriculture and Food, Tourism, Waste, and Energy. It also delivers some ideas about various possibilities for sources of financing, cost structure, type of partnerships, performance evaluation and monitoring.
The HDtM Strategy Paper also served as the background paper to UNEP’s 9th International Seminar on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP9), which was held on 12-13 December 2006, Arusha, Tanzania.
