Due to positive experiences in the past two years, the 3rd Sustainable Summer School – co-organized by the CSCP - will take place this summer. Registration is now open: Interested students from all over the world are invited to submit their application.
From August 28th to September 3rd 2011 “Managing Sustainable Design” will be this year’s study focus. The term “manage” implies huge capability for the topic of sustainable design. Participants will discuss from different view-points the role designers can play in designing a sustainable future. The organizers believe in a designer’s ability as inventor and developer to guide people and their behavior to a more sustainable future through a holistic approach.
Distinguished experts will introduce the students to this topic. In an inspiring environment, students will work together in workshops. Workshops topics include “Design for Post-Growth Economy”, “Shape the Future: Visions and Values”, “When everyone’s a designer”, and “Manus Agere “(Latin word for manage).
The 1st Summer School was held in 2009 under the motto “value through less”. The 2nd Summer School’s topic was “Societies, Systems and Swarms”. If you want to learn more about the latter, please check the recently published 2nd Summer School’s booklet now available at:

The Summer School was initiated by Brigitte Wolf, from the University of Wuppertal, and Christa Liedtke, from the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. A network jointly realising the Summer School’s programme has since been built with partners like the Folkwang University of the Arts, ecosign, the University of Lucerne, Switzerland and the UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP).
The organizers are looking forward to welcoming students attending the third Sustainable Summer School in Germany.
