The CSCP will act as a partner of the conference Strategic Alliances for Sustainable Development on 31 May 2010 in Duisburg, Germany. Participants will learn about the potentials of sustainable innovation through strategic alliances and how to tap them. PD Dr. Klaus Fichter (Borderstep) will provide the audience with input on innovation networks before concrete tools are introduced and tested in the run of interactive sessions.

Numerous ideas and answers to these questions were discussed and identified at a support workshop organised by the Action Town project for civil society organisations (CSOs) active in the field of SCP. The workshop took place early February 2010 in Vienna, Austria, with participants from a selected group from civil society organisations working on SCP as well as academics and researchers working with policy instruments, assessment tools and indicators for SCP. In today’s world there are over 1,2 billion people living from less then 1 US$ per day. The poor people are highly dependent on their environment and eco-system to generate their income. Reducing poverty in most cases means to expand consumption and production, which is linked to exploiting the natural resources and therefore harms the ecosystem. Sustainable consumption and production (SCP) can break this cycle by taking these issues into account and therefore contribute to overcoming poverty.
