In today’s world there are over 1,2 billion people living from less then 1 US$ per day. The poor people are highly dependent on their environment and eco-system to generate their income. Reducing poverty in most cases means to expand consumption and production, which is linked to exploiting the natural resources and therefore harms the ecosystem. Sustainable consumption and production (SCP) can break this cycle by taking these issues into account and therefore contribute to overcoming poverty. However, companies have to understand the markets and find ways on how to create value and meet the needs of the costumers in a sustainable way.
