The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), The UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) and the Regional Environmental Center (REC) Country Office Hungary are pleased to invite you to the workshop Civil society organisations for energy efficiency and sustainable transport on Wednesday 23 September 2009 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.15 a.m. at the Quai aux Briques (Sainte Catherine), Brussels, Belgium in the context of the EESC Energy Efficiency Days (www.eesc.europa.eu/save-it)

The objective of this workshop is to bring together civil society organisations, policy makers and researchers to discuss about how to promote energy efficiency in the mobility sector. The role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in promoting more sustainable consumer behaviour is crucial as they have close contacts to a broad range of different consumers. However, they need to liaise more closely with policy makers in order to really make an impact. The two-year project “Civil Society Platform on Sustainable Consumption and Production”, funded under the EU’s 7th Research Framework Programme, has created a European dialogue platform for CSOs to build capacity for influencing political decisions and identifying research needs in order to change consumption and production patterns. This event is one of the opportunities offered by the project to collaborate directly with the EU policy makers in the field of sustainable mobility.
The workshop is part of the “Save it! EESC Energy Efficiency Days“ (http://www.eesc.europa.eu/save-it), to mobilise all sectors of civil society, in particular individuals and households, to make them involved in and responsible for efforts to boost energy efficiency. This workshop supports the overall objectives of the event by offering a possibility to meet experts working on mobility issues in different organisations and to discuss on what kind of actions and tools are needed to become more effective in promoting energy-efficient transport. The workshop consists of expert panel followed by interactive world café discussion.
