Pupils Develop Visions of a Sustainable Future

What is offered in our neighbourhood? What did it look like in the past? What is missing? How should a sustainable future in our neighbourhood look?

Ninth grade students from the Gesamtschule Langerfeld explored the surroundings with these questions in mind.

As a project partner of the project “Wichlinghausen-Oberbarmen zeigen Zukunft” from Bob Kulturwerk e.V , the CSCP organised  two field trips for 9th grade students. We accompanied them on an exploration of their local neigbhourhood; this served as the basis for the development of their visions of a sustainable future.

In total, the students visited six stations and got an inside look in to the work of different institutions around the school. In every institution, they were welcomed with open arms by the lead representative, who then gave a very inspirational presentation of their work. The kids learned a lot about the institutions, their projects, and the history of the area and the people who used to live there.

The next step will be to use these insights and the knowledge acquired during the explorations to develop visions of a sustainable future together with members of the neighbourhood network. The CSCP supports this development process with our expertise in the areas of sustainable cities, a sustainable lifestyle, and bringing together different stakeholders.

The project is called “Wichlinghausen-Oberbarmen zeigen Zukunft” from Bob Kulturwerk e.V. and is part of the programme “NRW hält zusammen… für ein Leben ohne Armut und Ausgrenzung”. The overall project is coordinated by Liesbeth Bakker, Büro für Umwelt und Nachhaltigkeit ISP (International Sustainability Projects).
