Arrival of SMART Start-up ICT in Shanghai

After a successful SMART Start-up ICT Training, which took place in Cape Town on last April, now the CSCP’s SMART Start-up Team is heading to its next destination! This time SMART Start-up is arriving in Shanghai, China. On the 18th of October, 2011 the CSCP together with Deutsche Telekom, T-Systems China and China Guanghua Foundation are kicking off the SMART Start-up ICT Training happening between 18-21 October, 2011 in Shanghai.

The upcoming SMART Start-up ICT journey is designed as a discovery expedition, which aims at inspiring the selected trainees to realize the Sustainable Entrepreneurship’s potential to create a ripple effect on their lifestyles, their communities and to innovate the ICT industry. Therefore, a multidisciplinary group

of talented and motivated Chinese students from Fudan,

Jiatong and Tongji Universities is already preparing itself

for this unique experience.

Apart from participation in an interactive training program, the trainees will be given an opportunity to join the SMART Start-up ICT Multi-Stakeholder Meeting on the Future of Sustainable Business and Entrepreneurship in China, which is taking place on the last day of the training on 21st of October 2011. Up to fifty participants are expected to join this event. It is going to open an interdisciplinary dialogue to a broad range of international Sustainable Business and Entrepreneurship stakeholders, from entrepreneurs to policy makers, academicians, grant makers, companies and investors. Furthermore, the representatives of the Chinese entrepreneurship scene are going to meet the next generation of Chinese sustainable entrepreneurs, who will present and pitch their business ideas developed during the SMART Start-up ICT Training.

Some History:

SMART Start-up Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is the outgrowth of the CSCP experience in supporting education on Sustainable Entrepreneurship. After the 2008 program “Introducing Sustainable Lifestyles and Sustainable Entrepreneurship into African universities and colleges”, the CSCP has been developing tools and providing trainings to sensitize the academic community and the youth in Sustainable Entrepreneurship and to develop the capacity of entrepreneurs.

SMART Start-up ICT is the fruit of the collaboration between the CSCP and Deutsche Telekom. It stemmed from the need of improving the quality of entrepreneurship and ensuring sustainable practices in the ICT industry by inspiring the larger society. The project focuses on stimulating sustainable entrepreneurship and developing skills of the younger generations in Brazil, China and South Africa. Working with universities and colleges in these emerging markets, this project is presenting the concept of sustainability as an opportunity for potential entrepreneurs to develop sustainable business ideas and will provide a platform for collaboration between multi national companies, micro entrepreneurs, and supportive civil society organizations.
