The UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production has found its place in the building of the former "Huppertsberg Schnürriemen-Fabrik" which is an old shoelace factory that has been refurbished by the project Startpunkt. It has a central location in Wuppertal and is easily reached by public transport. CSCP is located on the second floor.
All parties working in the building are members of Startpunkt and participate in a range of common activities, e.g. the coordination of internships and education efforts. The project is linked to schools, initiatives and social projects in the Ostersbaum quarter and can serve as an excellent example of how to manage the transition from industrial usage to the information age, taking into account the needs of local entrepreneurs as well as the community surrounding.
