Centenary of the German Werkbund – reflecting design and society
On November 26, 2007 a wide range of leading experts will present and discuss contemporary design issues at the Frankfurt Municipal Museum of Decorative Art. The form and design of structures and products profoundly influences social interaction and society as a whole. Michael Kuhndt, head of the CSCP, will be speaking on the topic of sustainability in design with an emphasis on the critical challenges of sustainable consumption and production. “Sustainable design implies smarter production processes that integrate life-cycle thinking for products and their function within the broader socio-economic system”, explained Michael Kuhndt. The German Werkbund (Deutscher Werkbund) is an association of architects, designers and industrial organizations originally founded in 1907. The symposium will provide a high level review of bold and leading design forms and participants will reflect upon the influence of product design and the design of living spaces on the structure of society. Werkbund will host the event in collaboration with the “Rat für Formgebung, Hessen Design e. V.” and the Frankfurt Municipal Museum of Decorative Art in Frankfurt, Germany.
