This Open Meeting will focus primarily on the South Asia region with a special focus on India. The meeting will proceed on the basis of an understanding that societal dynamics are often both a root cause and potential solution for many environmental challenges.

To meet the theme of the conference “Social Challenges of Global Change”, the planning committee, of which Mr. Michael Kuhndt is a member, has formulated four core questions:

1. How do we deal with demographic challenges?

2. How do we deal with limitations of resources and ecosystem services?

3. How do we maintain social cohesion while increasing (global) equity?

4. How do we adapt institutions to address global change?
