"A World-Tour of a Pair of Jeans & A Flower Parade for Fair Trade"

"Wuppertal 24h live" is an enormous city event, consisting of 150 individual events and activities in some 80 different locations across the city on September 14 and 15, 2007. The idea is to showcase local competencies and changes in the region as well as present a new perspective of the city of Wuppertal to its inhabitants.

To demonstrate the potential of the city numerous local organisations, companies and societies will open their doors to the public, present themselves in displays across the city and transport people throughout the city. Within this large event the CSCP will support two projects by presenting a summary of its business and describing how it is supporting implementation of sustainable consumption and production patterns both locally and across the globe. In collaboration with startpunkt e.V. the CSCP project will enable visitors to follow a pair of denim jeans across the world and experience with all senses the different stages of the production chain. Different kinds of food, smells and visual & acoustic effects will guide the journey of the garment through a number of different countries. The trip reveals the interdependencies between the different steps, from the conceptual design idea through to the end-use of the product.

The second project highlights supply chains within the floriculture industry. Using a flower parade to attract attention, the CSCP in collaboration with the Wuppertal Catholic Council (Katholikenrat) will provide information about Fair Trade and flowers, existing Fair Trade labels and about working conditions and environmental impacts in the floriculture industry.

Consistent with the overall mission of the CSCP, these two initiatives are designed to illustrate the global character of everyday goods, the structure of interlinked global production chains and the potential of positive impacts through the consumption choices of individual consumers.
