HIGH 5! SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING FOR SMEs

Help is now here for small and medium sized enterprises entering the world of sustainability reporting, in the form of the new High 5! handbook. Developed by the Wuppertal Institute and triple innova and on behalf of and together with the Global Reporting Initiative, the handbook was created using a multi-stakeholder consultative process in response to many requests for a "beginner's guide".

High 5! offers a step-by-step guidance and practical how-to advice on using the GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, so that small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) can easily and effectively create sustainability reports that bring value to their businesses and communications practices.

It draws from the experiences of organisations that have used the Guidelines to report. Their experiences are captured in the form of quotes and tips throughout the handbook. A collection of short case studies allows SMEs to tell their stories about the process, the costs, and the benefits of reporting.

High 5! draws from the long-standing history of developing practical business tools and management concept to incorporate sustainability into the daily decision making process. Facilitating communication not only among businesses and societal actors, but also between businesses, the High 5! tool also makes an important contribution to improvements in global supply-chain management.

At a later stage High 5! will also be integrated in the SMART toolbox aiming to improve and communicate the sustainability performance of SMEs.
