BACKGROUND PAPER FOR THE COSTA RICA CONFERENCE

Among its first activities, the CSCP is involved in writing the discussion paper serving as the background document to the 2nd International Expert Meeting on The 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production. This major part of the Marrakech process takes place in San José, Costa Rica from the 5th to the 8th of September 2005. The meeting will consider inputs from the regional meetings and deliberate on how international activities can best support regional and national priorities; work to establish ways to improve international cooperation and assistance for developing countries; and review the scope of the ten-year framework.

Titled "Making the Marrakech process work", the discussion paper gives an outline of recent developments in SCP patterns on a global scale. The paper is jointly prepared by the United Nations Environment Programme, the Division for Sustainable Development of UN-DESA, and the UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP).

Go to CSCP's thematic publications page to download the paper.
